#!Rall111 Creating a Header File #!N #!EC #!N #!N The General
Array Importer uses a "header file" to describe the structure and
location of data to be imported. This file consists of #!F-adobe-times-medium-i-normal--18*
keyword #!EF statements that identify important characteristics of that data (including
grid structure, format, and data type, along with the path name
of the file containing the data). #!N #!N A header file
can be created with a text editor or, more easily, with
the Data Prompter, which prompts for the necessary information. (See #!Ltimpdat,dxall37 h Importing Data #!EL
for an example that uses the Data Prompter and #!Lprompt,dxall157 h Data Prompter #!EL for
a detailed description of how to use it.) The Data Prompter
also checks for incorrect syntax, such as conflicting keywords (see #!Lsydfgi,dxall139 h Header File Syntax: Keyword Statements #!EL
). #!N #!N Once a header file has been created, the
data it describes can be imported into Data Explorer by the
Import module. To identify a header file to Data Explorer through
the Import dialog box: #!N #!I0 #!N #!F-adobe-times-medium-r-normal--18* #!N #!N #!I30
#!N 1. Enter the path name of the header file in
the #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* name #!EF parameter field. #!N #!I30 #!N 2. Enter
"general" in the #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* format #!EF parameter field. (If the file
has the extension " #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* . #!EF general," it is not
necessary to specify the format to Import. Header files created with
the Data Prompter are automatically given this extension.) #!N #!I0 #!N
