#!CDarkGreen #!N #!Rmltvrx6 Example 6. Deformed
(Warped) Regular Grid #!N #!EC #!N #!N A deformed regular grid
(sometimes referred to as a warped grid) is one in which
the positions are irregular but the connections are regular. In this
example the grid is 5 * 4. The data consists of
three records, the first two of which contain scalar data defined
on the grid. The third contains 2-vector values defining the grid
positions. The Data Prompter uses the reserved word #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* locations #!EF
as a field name for the x,y values of the grid
positions. The data file contains no descriptive information. #!N #!I0 #!N
#!F-adobe-times-medium-r-normal--18* #!N #!N #!I30 #!N 1. In the Data Prompter initial
dialog box, click on #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* Grid or Scattered File #!EF ,
then on the button representing deformed data (third from the left)
in the row labeled #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* Grid type #!EF . #!N #!I30
#!N 2. Set #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* Number of variables #!EF to "2." #!N
#!I30 #!N 3. Step 1 automatically activates the #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* Positions in
data file #!EF toggle button (the positions of warped regular data
are assumed to be listed in the data file) and displays
a #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* Dimension #!EF stepper button. Set the #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* Dimension #!EF
value to "2" for 2-dimensional (x,y) data. . #!N #!I30 #!N
4. For #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* Data organization #!EF , confirm that the #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18*
Block #!EF (i.e., record) toggle button is activated. #!N #!I30 #!N
5. Click on #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* Data Prompter #!EF to bring up the
simplified data prompter. #!N #!I30 #!N 6. Enter the path name
of the data file in the #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* Data file #!EF field:
#!CForestGreen #!N #!N #!F-adobe-courier-bold-r-normal--18* #!N /usr/lpp/dx/samples/data/record_deformed #!EF #!N #!N #!EC #!N
#!I30 #!N 7. Enter the values "5," and "4," in that
order, in the first two #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* Grid size #!EF fields. #!N
#!I30 #!N 8. Confirm that #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* Data format #!EF , #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18*
Data order #!EF , and #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* Vector interleaving #!EF are set
respectively to Text, Row, and record-vector (X[0]Y[0], X[1]Y[1], ...). #!N #!I30
#!N 9. In the #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* Field list #!EF , click on
"locations" and use the "Move field" stepper arrows to position it
after "field1" (i.e., at the bottom of the list). This change
is necessary to reflect the actual data file, where the two
scalar fields precede the x,y positions. (By default, the Data Prompter
lists "locations" as the first field.) #!N #!I30 #!N 10. Click
on "field0" in the list and then change the name to
"rainfall" in the #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* Field name #!EF field. To confirm this
change, click on #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* Modify #!EF at the bottom of the
dialog box (note the instruction there). #!N #!I30 #!N 11. Now
change "field1" to "temperature" and the #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* Type #!EF option from
"float" to "int" (the temperature values are integers). These changes can
be confirmed together by clicking on #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* Modify #!EF at the
bottom of the panel. #!N #!I30 #!N 12. Save the header
file (Step 10 of Example 1 in #!Lex1a,dxall116 s To save the header file #!EL ), which should
look like: #!N #!I0 #!N #!EF #!N #!CForestGreen #!N #!N #!F-adobe-courier-bold-r-normal--18*
