#!N #!N Set a cache entry. #!N #!N Syntax #!N #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18*
#include <dx/dx.h> Error DXSetCacheEntry(Object out, double cost, char *function, int key,
int n, ...) Error DXSetCacheEntryV(Object out, double cost, char *function, int
key, int n, Object *in) #!EF #!N #!N Functional Details #!N
#!N Create or alter a cache entry to store a reference
to #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* out #!EF . The cache entry is indexed by
a key created from #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* function #!EF , #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* key #!EF
, #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* n #!EF , and the Objects in the Array
#!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* in #!EF . The parameter #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* function #!EF makes the
key unique to the caller; #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* key #!EF allows the caller
to have multiple cache entries with the same #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* function #!EF
, and #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* n #!EF and #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* in #!EF allow the
cache entry to be related to the Objects that were used
to create it. Setting a cache entry to #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* NULL #!EF
removes the entry and deletes the Object. #!N #!N #!N #!N
The #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* out #!EF parameter must be a Data Explorer Object.
Private Objects may be used to store arbitrary user data in
the cache. #!N #!N The entry may be automatically deleted at
any time because of memory constraints unless #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* cost #!EF is
set to a value equal to or greater than #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* CACHE_PERMANENT
#!EF . #!N #!N #!I0 #!N Notes: #!N #!I30 #!N 1.
Because Data Explorer modules follow pure function semantics, the cache should
#!F-adobe-times-medium-i-normal--18* not #!EF be used to store a state that affects
the output of the module. A module must always be able
to recreate the Object from the same set of inputs; the
cache should be used only as an optimization tool. #!N #!I30
#!N 2. On a multiprocessor machine, processor local information should #!F-adobe-times-medium-i-normal--18*
not #!EF be stored in the cache, since its contents may
be retrieved on another processor. #!N #!I30 #!N 3. The cache
is local to one machine and cannot be used to communicate
information between modules on different machines when running in distributed mode.
#!I0 #!N #!N #!N #!N Because Objects in the cache are
candidates for deletion at any time, #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* DXReference #!EF should be
called before caching an Object if that Object is to be
used later. #!N #!N If you have called DXReference on the
Object before putting it in the cache, call #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* DXDelete #!EF
when the Object is no longer being used; the latter call
will not delete the Object from the cache. (To delete an
Object from the cache, set the cache entry to #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* NULL
#!EF with #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* DXSetCacheEntry #!EF .) #!N #!N #!N #!N Return
Value #!N #!N Return #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* OK #!EF or return #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* NULL
#!EF and set an error code. #!N #!N See Also #!N
