#!CSeaGreen #!N #!Rtslice Slices #!N #!EC Following are a few examples
of how to generate and process data slices. #!N #!N For
3-dimensional data on any type of grid or for non-orthogonal slices,
use the #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* MapToPlane #!EF tool. If the data set is
on a regular grid, use the #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* Slab #!EF tool to
take slices along connection elements. You can use other tools (e.g.,
#!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* AutoColor #!EF or #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* RubberSheet #!EF ) on data slices
just as you can on any 2-dimensional object. #!N #!I0 #!N
#!F-adobe-times-medium-r-normal--18* #!N #!N #!I30 #!N 1. Open and execute visual program
.../MapToPlane.net. The image is a colored plane through a 3-dimensional data
field. By default, #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* MapToPlane #!EF maps onto a plane at
the center of the data. To change the orientation of this
plane: #!N #!I30 #!N 2. Open the configuration dialog box for
#!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* MapToPlane #!EF , change the value in the #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* normal
#!EF parameter field to [1 1 1] and click on #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18*
OK #!EF . The change of orientation will appear when the
program is reexecuted. #!N #!I30 #!N 3. Reexecute the visual program.
#!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* MapToPlane #!EF performs the necessary interpolation for a data slice
of any orientation in a 3-dimensional field. #!N #!N See MapToPlane
in IBM Visualization Data Explorer User's Reference. #!N #!I0 #!N #!EF
#!N #!N #!N To visualize an orthogonal slice without interpolation, use
#!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* Slab #!EF : #!N #!I0 #!N #!F-adobe-times-medium-r-normal--18* #!N #!N #!I30
#!N 1. Open and execute visual program .../Slab.net. The image is
a translucent isosurface with a colored slice (or slab) cutting through
it. To visualize a slice through another part of the isosurface:
#!N #!I30 #!N 2. Open the configuration dialog box for #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18*
Slab #!EF and change the #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* position #!EF parameter value to
"10." #!N #!I30 #!N 3. Click on #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* OK #!EF or
#!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* Apply #!EF . #!N #!I30 #!N 4. Reexecute the visual
program. The position of the new slice is changed. #!N #!N
See Slab in IBM Visualization Data Explorer User's Reference. #!N #!I0
#!N #!EF #!N #!N #!N To create an animation that generates
different slices of the data: #!N #!I0 #!N #!F-adobe-times-medium-r-normal--18* #!N #!N
#!I30 #!N 1. Select #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* Special #!EF in the categories palette
and then #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* Sequencer #!EF in the tools palette. #!N #!I30
#!N 2. Position the cursor to the right of #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* Slab
#!EF in the VPE. #!N #!I30 #!N 3. Open the #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18*
Slab #!EF configuration dialog box. #!N #!I30 #!N 4. Click on
the #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* position #!EF toggle (unsetting the parameter value). The parameter
field now reads "(all)" and the #!F-adobe-times-medium-i-normal--18* third #!EF input tab
on the #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* Slab #!EF icon (counting from the left) projects
outward from the icon (instead of into it). #!N #!I30 #!N
5. Click on #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* OK #!EF . #!N #!I30 #!N 6.
Connect the output tab of #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* Sequencer #!EF to this third
input tab (i.e., "position") of #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* Slab #!EF . #!N #!I30
#!N 7. Double click on the #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* Sequencer #!EF icon to
display the #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* Sequence Control #!EF panel. #!N #!I30 #!N 8.
Click on the frame button ( #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* ... #!EF ) to
display the #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* Frame Control #!EF panel. #!N #!I30 #!N 9.
Reset the limits: #!N #!I0 #!N #!F-adobe-times-medium-r-normal--18* #!N #!N #!I30 #!N
a. Click on the #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* min #!EF field, type "0," and
press Enter. #!N #!I30 #!N b. Click on the #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* max
#!EF field, type "20," and press Enter. #!N #!I0 #!N #!EF
#!N #!N #!I30 #!N 10. Click on the Forward (>) button
to play the sequence. #!N #!N See #!Lsequen2,dxall21 h Using the Sequencer #!EL in this Guide
