  <p>È possibile digitare e visualizzare migliaia di caratteri dalla maggior parte dei sistemi di scrittura del mondo, anche quelli non direttamente presenti sulla tastiera. In questa pagina vengono presentati alcuni diversi modi per inserire questi caratteri.</p>

    <title>Tabella caratteri</title>
    <p>Per esplorare tutti i caratteri presenti nello standard Unicode è disponibile un'applicazione apposita, chiamata Tabella caratteri. Questa applicazione può essere utilizzata per trovare il carattere richiesto, quindi copiarlo e incollarlo dove necessario.</p>

  <section id="compose">
    <title>Tasto Compose</title>
    <p>Un tasto compose (o di composizione) è un tasto speciale che consente di premere diversi tasti uno dopo l'altro per ottenere un carattere speciale. Per esempio, per digitare la lettera accentata <em>é</em>, è possibile premere <key>compose</key> quindi <key>'</key> e poi <key>e</key>.</p>
    <p>Le tastiere non presentano tasti compose specifici. È invece possibile definire uno dei tasti presenti sulla tastiera come un tasto compose.</p>

        start typing <gui>Keyboard</gui>.</p>

      behave as a compose key from the drop-down menu. You can choose either of

      you have one, the <key xref="keyboard-key-menu">Menu</key> key or
      <key>Caps Lock</key>. Any key you select will then only work as a compose
      key, and will no longer work for its original purpose.</p></item>

  <title>Code point</title>

  <p>È possibile inserire ogni carattere Unicose usando solo la tastiera attraverso il code point numerico del carattere. Ogni carattere è identificato da un code point costituito da quattro caratteri. Per trovare il code point di un carattere, trovare il carattere nell'applicazione tabella caratteri e guardare nella barra di stato o nella scheda <gui>Dettagli carattere</gui>. Il code point è costituito dai quattro caratteri dopo <gui>U+</gui>.</p>

  <p>To enter a character by its code point, hold down <key>Ctrl</key> and
  <key>Shift</key>, type <key>U</key> followed by the four-character code
  point, then release <key>Ctrl</key> and <key>Shift</key>. If you often use
  characters that you can't easily access with other methods, you might find
  it useful to memorize the code point for those characters so you can enter
  them quickly.</p>

    <title>Disposizioni di tastiera</title>
    <p>È possibile fare in modo che la propria tastiera si comporti come quella impostata per un'altra lingua, indifferentemente dalle lettere indicate sui tasti.   <title>Metodi di input</title>

  <p>An Input Method expands the previous methods by allowing to enter
  characters not only with keyboard but also any input devices. For instance
  you could enter characters with a mouse using a gesture method, or enter
  Japanese characters using a Latin keyboard.</p>

  <p>Per scegliere un metodo di input, fare clic col pulsante destro del mouse in un'area di testo, scegliere <gui>Metodi di input</gui> e quindi il metodo da utilizzare. Non esiste un metodo di input predefinito nel sistema, per maggiori informazioni sull'utilizzo di uno di questi metodi consultare l'apposita documentazione.</p>
