a line with a constant spacing between them, representing 1-dimensional regular
positions. (The points themselves may be in a higher-dimensional space, but
they must lie on a line.) All regular Arrays must be
category real (as opposed to complex) and rank 1; the shape
is then the dimensionality of the space in which the points
