#!F-adobe-helvetica-medium-r-normal--18*
#!N
#!CDarkGreen #!N  #!Rex6n7 Examples 6 and 7. Vector Data #!N
#!EC #!N #!N The General Array Importer supports three representations, or
"styles," of vector data: record, record-vector, and series-vector. The first two
are illustrated here. For the third, see  #!Lintrkwd,dxall148 h interleaving  #!EL  . #!N #!N
Which representation matches the data depends on a characteristic called #!F-adobe-times-medium-i-normal--18*
interleaving #!EF . In record interleaving, the data for each vector
component are stored together in individual blocks (e.g., X[0], X[1],..., X[n],
Y[0], Y[1],..., Y[n]). In record-vector interleaving, the components of each vector
are stored consecutively (e.g., X[0]Y[0], X[1]Y[1],..., X[n]Y[n]). #!N #!N The following
pair of examples illustrates the differences between the two representations and
between the header files used to import them. The header files
are identical in that they both specify a unit 2-vector that
parallels the x-axis and is defined on a 5 x 4
regular grid. That is, the data consists of 20 instances of
the vector [1 0]. #!N #!N In Example 7, the interleaving
style of the data file is #!F-adobe-times-medium-i-normal--18* record #!EF : #!CForestGreen

#!N  #!F-adobe-times-medium-r-normal--18*   #!N #!N #!I30 #!N 1. In the Data Prompter
simplified dialog box, select #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* New #!EF in the #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* File
#!EF pull-down menu (this selection clears the dialog box of any
information from a previous file). #!N #!I30 #!N 2. Enter the
path name of the data file in the #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* Data file
#!EF field: #!CForestGreen #!N #!N  #!F-adobe-courier-bold-r-normal--18*   #!N /usr/lpp/dx/samples/data/record_vectordata1. #!EF #!N #!N
#!EC #!N #!I30 #!N 3. Enter the values "5" and "4,"
in that order, in the first two #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* Grid size #!EF
fields. (Note that the origin-delta values default to [0 1].) #!N
#!I30 #!N 4. Add a field to the Field list by
typing a name (e.g. field0) in the  #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18*   Field name #!EF
text field, and then pressing the #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* Add #!EF button. #!N
#!I30 #!N 5. Change  #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18*   Type #!EF (right-hand panel) to "int."
Note: To implement this change, you must click on #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* Modify
#!EF at the bottom of the dialog box. However, you can
delay implementation to Step 5, and implement both steps at the
same time. #!N #!I30 #!N 6. Change  #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18*   Structure #!EF (right-hand
panel) to "2-vector." To implement this change, click on #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* Modify
#!EF at the bottom of the dialog box (note the instruction
there). #!N #!I30 #!N 7. Step 5 activates the  #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18*   Vector
interleaving #!EF button. Select X[0],X[1],...,X[n],Y[0],Y[1],...,Y[n] (the notation used for record style).
#!N #!I30 #!N 8. Repeat Example 1, Step 10 (see  #!Lex1a,dxall116 s To save the header file  #!EL
), to save the header file, which should look like: #!N

have not closed the simplified dialog box from Example 5, all
you need do is: #!N #!I0 #!N  #!F-adobe-times-medium-r-normal--18*   #!N #!N #!I30

the  #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18*   Data file #!EF field) to: #!CForestGreen #!N #!N  #!F-adobe-courier-bold-r-normal--18*

record-vector style). #!N #!I0 #!N #!EF #!N Otherwise you can repeat
Example 6 (or open the header file record_vectordata1) and make the
appropriate changes. #!N #!I30 #!N 2. Repeat Example 1, Step 10
(see #!Lex1a,dxall116 s To save the header file #!EL ), to save the new header file, which should
look like the one shown at the top of the next
page. #!N #!I0 #!N #!EF #!N #!CForestGreen #!N #!N  #!F-adobe-courier-bold-r-normal--18*   #!N
