#!CDarkGreen #!N #!Rall24 Specifying Colormap Values
#!N #!EC #!N #!N You can specify a Colormap value in
two ways: #!N #!I0 #!N #!F-adobe-times-medium-r-normal--18* #!N #!N #!I30 #!N o
Directly by manipulating a control point. #!N #!I30 #!N o Indirectly
through the #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* Add Control Points #!EF dialog box. #!N #!I0
#!N #!EF #!N The first is quick and approximate. The second
is slower and precise. #!Cbrown #!N #!F-adobe-times-medium-r-normal--18* #!Rcmaped9 #!N Graphics omitted

Colormap Editor for .../example1.net. The four image characteristics controlled by the
editor (hue, saturation, value, and opacity) are also listed in #!Lcolmped1,dxall24 t Table 1 #!EL
. The numerical range for each is 0.0-1.0. For #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* Hue
#!EF this range is "r g b r" (red green blue
red); the current setting corresponds to the red-green-blue spectrum of the
color column to the left. The column furthest left (RGB) displays
the red-green-blue color values corresponding to the four settings on the
right. Note that each setting is determined by a "line" whose
position can be changed by moving the "control point" at one
of its ends; the shape of the line can be modified
by adding control points (see text). The values 0.0 and 2.5000000
are the minimum and maximum of the data values used in
the visual program. #!EF #!N #!EC #!N #!N #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* Specifying approximate
values: #!EF #!N #!I0 #!N #!F-adobe-times-medium-r-normal--18* #!N #!N #!I30 #!N 1.
Position the mouse cursor in the middle of the large #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18*
Value #!EF rectangle and #!F-adobe-times-medium-i-normal--18* double click #!EF the left mouse
button. Note the changes that result: #!N #!I0 #!N #!F-adobe-times-medium-r-normal--18* #!N
#!N #!I30 #!N o A new control point appears (turning the
vertical line into two line segments) and the #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* Value #!EF
button is activated. #!N #!I30 #!N o The data value of
the new point is displayed in the data range next to
the color column (the RGB area, color column, and image show
corresponding changes). #!N #!I0 #!N #!EF #!N #!N #!I30 #!N 2.
To move the control point, use the left mouse button to
drag it. The RGB area, color column, data value, and image
all change accordingly. #!N #!I30 #!N 3. To return Value to
its previous state, double click on the control point. #!N #!I0
#!N #!EF #!N #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* Specifying exact values: #!EF #!N #!I0 #!N
#!F-adobe-times-medium-r-normal--18* #!N #!N #!I30 #!N 1. Select #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* Edit #!EF in
the menu bar of the Colormap Editor and then select #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18*
Add Control Points #!EF in the pull-down menu. A dialog box
appears (see #!Laddcon10,dxall25 f Figure 10 #!EL ). #!Cbrown #!N #!F-adobe-times-medium-r-normal--18* #!Raddcon10 #!N #!N Graphics

Add Control Points Dialog Box. This dialog box has two interactors:
The first specifies the actual data value for which a corresponding
set of Colormap values are to be implemented. The second specifies
one of the four Colormap values, such as #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* Hue #!EF
in this example (see text). #!EF #!N #!EC #!N #!I30 #!N
2. Click on the #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* Saturation #!EF rectangle of the Colormap
Editor. The label button in the editor is activated (recessed) and
the new interactor label in the #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* Add Control Points #!EF
dialog box changes to "Saturation value (0.0 to 1.0)." #!N #!I30
#!N 3. Click on the data value displayed in the dialog
box, type in the value 1, and press #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* Enter #!EF
. The new value is displayed as 1.00000. #!N #!I30 #!N
4. Click on the saturation value displayed in the dialog box,
type in the value #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* . #!EF 28, and press #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18*
Enter #!EF . The new value is displayed as 0.28000. #!N
#!I30 #!N 5. Click on #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* Add #!EF in the dialog
box: A control point corresponding to the new values in the
dialog box appears in the #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* Saturation #!EF rectangle of the
editor. The RGB area, color column, and image all change accordingly.
#!N #!I0 #!N #!EF #!N #!N #!N Now that you know
how to open and execute visual programs and to control the
images they generate, you can proceed to Tutorial II, which deals
with various techniques for visualizing data. #!CIndianRed #!N #!N #!N #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18*
Additional Notes on Control Points #!N #!N #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* Displaying Control Point
Values #!EF #!N #!N By default the Colormap Editor displays the
values of all control points. To display the value of an
individual point: #!N #!I0 #!N #!F-adobe-times-medium-r-normal--18* #!N #!N #!I30 #!N 1.
Select in order: #!N #!I0 #!N #!F-adobe-times-medium-r-normal--18* #!N #!N #!I30 #!N

#!I30 #!N 2. Click on the desired control point in the
ColorMap Editor (the rectangle containing the control point is automatically activated
if it is not already activated). The data value corresponding to
the selected control point appears in the data range next to
the color column. #!N #!I30 #!N 3. Repeat the preceding selection
procedure, except click on #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* All #!EF in the pull-down list
(instead of #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* Selected #!EF ). Data values for all control
points in the #!F-adobe-times-medium-i-normal--18* activated #!EF rectangle now appear in the
data range. #!N #!I0 #!N #!EF #!N #!N #!N #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* Deleting
