#!N #!Rloadvp Opening a Visual Program #!N #!EC #!N #!N A
visual program must be opened before it can be executed: #!N
#!I0 #!N #!F-adobe-times-medium-r-normal--18* #!N #!N #!I30 #!N 1. From the Data
Explorer Startup window choose #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* Edit Visual Program #!EF . A
file selection dialog box appears (see #!Lfilesel3,dxall4 f Figure 3 #!EL ). You can also
get to the file selection dialog by choosing #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* Run Visual
Program #!EF in the Startup window or, once the visual program
editor or image window has appeared, by selecting #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* File #!EF
in the menu bar of the window and then selecting #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18*
Open Program #!EF . #!N #!I30 #!N 2. #!F-adobe-times-medium-i-normal--18* Double click
#!EF on any part of the #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* Filter #!EF field at
the top of the dialog box. Any text in that field
will appear against the background of a black highlight bar. #!N
#!I30 #!N 3. Type #!N #!N /usr/lpp/dx/samples/tutorial/*.net #!N #!N (The cursor
automatically moves to the beginning of the text line as soon
as you start typing, and the highlighted text and highlight bar
disappear.) Note: The file extension .net (for network) is the default
for Data Explorer visual programs. In Data Explorer, "network" is a
term for visual program. #!N #!I30 #!N 4. Press #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* Enter
#!EF or click on the #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* Filter #!EF pushbutton at the
bottom of the dialog box. The #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* Selection #!EF field just
above this button now displays the directory path name. An alphabetized
list of the .net files in the directory appears in the
#!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* Files #!EF field. Note: If the path name you typed
is invalid (the wrong list or no list of files appears),
you can edit it: position the mouse cursor at the point
where you want to start editing and click #!F-adobe-times-medium-i-normal--18* once #!EF
before beginning to type. #!N #!N If the highlight bar reappears,
retyping the entire path name is still unnecessary: again, position the
cursor and click #!F-adobe-times-medium-i-normal--18* once #!EF . The highlight bar disappears,
but the path name remains, with the cursor at the selected
position. #!N #!I30 #!N 5. Use the scroll bar to move
to the bottom of the list in the #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* Files #!EF
field. Click on example1.net to highlight the file name. The #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18*
Selection #!EF field now displays the file's full path name. #!N
#!I30 #!N 6. Click on #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* OK #!EF to open the
example1.net visual program: the dialog box closes; a "network" of modules
and connecting lines appears in the "canvas" area of the VPE
window; and the full path name of the program appears in
the title bar of the window. Opening is completed. #!N #!I0
#!N #!EF #!N #!N #!N For a short description of example1.net,
click on #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* Help #!EF at the right side of the
menu bar and select #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* Application Comment #!EF in the pull-down
menu. #!CIndianRed #!N #!N #!N #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* For Future Reference #!N #!I0
#!N #!F-adobe-times-medium-r-normal--18* #!N #!N #!I30 #!N o Double clicking on a
name in the #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* Files #!EF field also opens a program.
#!N #!I30 #!N o It is not necessary to clear the
canvas of one program before opening another. Just open the new
program. #!N #!I30 #!N o If for any reason you want
to start over again with a clean canvas--without closing Data Explorer:
click on #!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* File #!EF in the menu bar and select
#!F-adobe-times-bold-r-normal--18* New #!EF in the pull-down menu. This sequence clears the
canvas of the previous program network and any associated windows. #!N
