set logscale {<axis>} [<base>]
</pre><p>The setting <tt class="tt">logscale</tt> causes an axis to be laid out with logarithmically, rather than linearly, spaced intervals. For example, issuing the command: </p><pre>
set log
</pre><p>would cause all of the axes of a plot to be scaled logarithmically. Alternatively, only one, or a selection of axes, can be set to scale logarithmically as follows: </p><pre>
set log x1 y2
</pre><p>This would cause the first horizontal and second vertical axes to be scaled logarithmically. Linear scaling can be restored to all axes using the command </p><pre>
set nolog
</pre><p>meanwhile the command </p><pre>
unset log
</pre><p>restores axes to their default scaling, as specified in any configuration file which may be present. Both of these commands can also be applied to only one or a selection of axes, as in the examples </p><pre>
set nolog x1 y2
</pre><p>and </p><pre>
unset log x1y2
</pre><p>Optionally, a base may be specified at the end of the <tt class="tt">set logscale</tt> command, to produce axes labelled in logarithms of arbitrary bases. The default base isĀ 10. </p><p>In addition to acting upon any combination of <img src="images/img-0019.png" alt="$x$" style="vertical-align:0px;
width:10px;
height:8px" class="math gen" />-, <img src="images/img-0020.png" alt="$y$" style="vertical-align:-4px;
width:9px;
height:12px" class="math gen" />- and <img src="images/img-0101.png" alt="$z$" style="vertical-align:0px;
width:9px;
height:8px" class="math gen" />-axes, the <tt class="tt">set logscale</tt> command may also be requested to set the <tt class="tt">c1</tt>, <tt class="tt">c2</tt>, <tt class="tt">c3</tt>, <tt class="tt">c4</tt>, <tt class="tt">t</tt>, <tt class="tt">u</tt> and/or <tt class="tt">v</tt> axes to scale logarithmically. The first four of these options affect whether the colours on colour maps scale linearly or logarithmically with input ordinate values; see the <tt class="tt">set c<n>range</tt> command for more details. The final three of these options specifies whether parametric functions are sampled linearly or logarithmically in the variables <tt class="tt">t</tt> (one-dimensional), or <tt class="tt">u</tt> and <tt class="tt">v</tt> (two-dimensional); see the <tt class="tt">set trange</tt>, <tt class="tt">set urange</tt> and <tt class="tt">set vrange</tt> commands for more details. </p></div>
