<H3>Typical Set of Steps To Digitize An Image File</H3>
<P>The following steps manually digitize a map with one measure:</P>
<UL>
<LI>Obtain an image file (bitmap, jpeg or other) containing a scale 
bar with its scale distance marked</LI>
<LI>Import the image file using one of the following options:
  <UL>
  <LI>File/Import menu option</LI>
  <LI>Copying and pasting</LI>
  <LI>Dragging and dropping</LI>
  </UL>
</LI>
<LI>Click on the Scale Bar button before entering the scale bar. This 
will define the scale</LI>
<LI>Click on one end of the scale bar, then drag to the other end of 
the scale bar, then enter the scale bar length</LI>
<LI>Select the View/Measure Geometry Info menu option to bring up the 
<A HREF="dlgmeasuregeometry.html">measure geometry</A> window</LI>
<LI>Click on the Measure Points button before entering measure points. 
These will contain the measure angles, distances and areas</LI>
<LI>Click on the map to add a measure point</LI>
<LI>Repeat the previous step until the map is covered with a 
sufficient number of measure points</LI>
<LI>Export measure points using one of the following options:
  <UL>
  <LI>Copying and pasting to copy points in the current measure from the 
  <A HREF="dlgmeasuregeometry.html">measure geometry window</A> to another application</LI>
  <LI>Dragging and dropping to copy points in the current measure from the 
  <A HREF="dlgmeasuregeometry.html">measure geometry window</A> to another application</LI>
  </UL>

<H3>Optional Steps</H3>
<P>For a map with more than one measure:</P>
<UL>
<LI>Select the Settings/Measures menu option to bring up the 
<A HREF="dlgmeasures.html">measures window</A></LI>
<LI>Click on the New button to create a new measure, then enter 
the name of the new measure</LI>
<LI>Repeat the previous step until all desired measure names 
have been entered</LI>
<LI>In the main window, use the Measures combobox to select a 
measure. While that measure is selected, all new measure points 
will be assigned to that measure</LI>
