sample internal faces (since volField not defined on faces).
mode = NEARESTCELL : sample nearest cell
mode = NEARESTPATCHFACE : sample nearest face on selected patch
mode = NEARESTFACE : sample nearest face on any patch. Note: does not
warn if nearest actually is on internal face!
