Copies and Job Size</a></h1>
<p>Options used:</p>
<ul>

<p><tt class="LITERAL">mc=</tt><span class=
"emphasis"><i class="EMPHASIS">maximum number of
copies</i></span></p>

<p><tt class="LITERAL">mx=</tt><span class=
"emphasis"><i class="EMPHASIS">maximum job size
(Kbytes)</i></span></p>

<p>The <tt class="LITERAL">:mc</tt> (maximum number of copies)
and <tt class="LITERAL">:mx</tt> (maximum job size) options are
used by both the <b class="APPLICATION">lpr</b> and <b class=
"APPLICATION">lpd</b> programs. The <tt class="COMMAND">lpr
-Kn</tt> or <tt class="COMMAND">lpr -#n</tt> option sets the
numbers of copies wanted to <tt class="LITERAL">n</tt>; if this
is larger than the <tt class="LITERAL">:mc</tt> value then the
<b class="APPLICATION">lpr</b> client will not print the job
and the <b class="APPLICATION">lpd</b> server will discard the
job with an error. The job size is the product of the number of
copies and the sum of the individual file sizes. This is, in
effect, the total number of bytes to be transferred to the
printer. If the job size is larger than the <tt class=
"LITERAL">:mx</tt> limit, then the <b class=
"APPLICATION">lpr</b> client will not print the job and the
<b class="APPLICATION">lpd</b> server will discard the job with
an error.</p>
