class:: SemiColonFileReader
summary:: file reader for semi-colon separated data
related:: Classes/File
categories:: Files

description::
SemiColonFileReader reads semi-colon delimited files into 2D arrays.

For tab delimited files use link::Classes/TabFileReader::. For comma-separated files use link::Classes/CSVFileReader::. For space-delimited files, or custom delimiters, use link::Classes/FileReader::.

Examples::

code::
(
// write a test file:
f = File("SemiColonTest.sc", "w");
f.write(
"Some semi-colon delimited data;

123;;4;
0.5;0.6;0.7
"
);
f.close;
)

	// open file, read and put strings into array, close file.
x = SemiColonFileReader.read("SemiColonTest.sc").postcs;

	// can skip empty lines:
x = SemiColonFileReader.read("SemiColonTest.sc", true).postcs;

	// can skip blank entries caused by multiple commas:
x = SemiColonFileReader.read("SemiColonTest.sc", true, true).postcs;

	// do file open/close by hand if you prefer:
f = File("SemiColonTest.sc", "r"); f.isOpen;
t = SemiColonFileReader(f);
t.read;
f.close;

(
// write a test file with numbers:
f = File("SemiColonTestNum.sc", "w");

(1..10).do { |n| f.write(n.asString ++ ";"); };
f.close;
)

x = SemiColonFileReader.read("SemiColonTestNum.sc").postcs;
x.collect(_.collect(_.interpret));	// convert to numbers.

	// or you can do it immediately:
x = SemiColonFileReader.readInterpret("SemiColonTestNum.sc").postcs;

(
// write a test file with numbers:
f = File("SemiColonTestNum.sc", "w");

(1..100).do { |n|
	f.write(n.asString ++ if (n % 10 != 0, $;, Char.nl)); };
f.close;
)

x = SemiColonFileReader.readInterpret("SemiColonTestNum.sc").postln;
