<desc>Captive user interface for self-service photo booth</desc>
</info>

Photobox Plugin

The <app>Photobox</app> plugin allows the
Entangle
user interface to
be locked down, to act as a self-service photo booth where the user only has the
ability to capture and view images.

When the plugin is initially activated, it adds a single new checkbox
option <gui>Photo Box</gui> under the <gui>Windows</gui> menu. Enabling
this checkbox makes a number of changes to the user interface

<list>

The window is resized to fill the entire screen with no titlebar

The menu bar and tool bar are hidden

The camera settings panel on the lefthand side is hidden

A button to trigger the camera shutter is added to the bottom of the window

</list>

As a result, the user is able to see the film strip of previously captured
images, view any image full size and trigger the shutter to capture new
images. Access to all other functionality is removed / blocked.

To leave the photobox mode the <key>Esc</key> should be used. To prevent
unauthorized users from leaving the photobox, it is possible to set an
unlock password. To do this bring up the main application preferences
from the <guiseq><gui>Edit</gui><gui>Preferences</gui></guiseq> menu
and select the <gui>Plugins</gui> page. Select the <gui>Photobox</gui>
plugin in the list and press the <gui>Preferences</gui> button. You
will now be prompted to enter a password, which can be arbitrarily
long and use any printable characters.

Since the user will not have any access to the camera settings, it is
sensible to configure the camera with suitable settings before enabling
photobox mode. An obvious choice would be to put the camera in fully
automatic exposure mode with autofocus enabled on the lens, but in
general any choice of settings is valid.

<note style="warning">

The <app>Photobox</app> plugin only attempts to restrict the <app>Entangle</app>
user interface. Be aware that, even though the application is running full
screen with no title bar, various desktop shell shortcuts will still be
available. These may allow users to escape from the photobox. For example
<keyseq><key>Alt</key><key>Tab</key></keyseq> may allow switching to a
completely different application. Future versions of the photobox may attempt
to block these kind of keyboard shortcuts. IOW, the photobox mode only provides
soft protection against accidental escape, not strong
protection against hostile users.
